New Screenwriter Climbs Aboard "Halo"

Those who've been following the "Halo" trip from Xbox to movie screen are probably well aware that the original screenplay was penned by "28 Days Later" scribe Alex Garland. And now we get word that a rookie screenwriter has been given the chance to give the project a second draft -- and the kid certainly seems to have his video game pedigree in order.

We're introduced to author/screenwriter D.B. Weiss by way of this fine interview at GameSetWatch.com. Here's a snip:

"What are you working on at the moment?

I write for film now, mostly – appropriately enough, I’m currently adapting "Halo" for producers Mary Parent, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. I’ve got another novel finished that needs a second draft – and maybe someday, I’ll be able to work in games. I certainly hope so.

-That's pretty exciting - I know you mentioned being a fan of the game's multiplayer mode a few years back, but were you attracted to the storyline of the single player game back then?

Yeah, I’m pretty excited about it. And I did always think there was a lot more to the "Halo" universe than most games -- I remember switching to “Easy” mode on the first game, so I could plow through it more quickly and find out what happened next."

For a full rundown of Mr. Weiss' video game credentials, check out the full interview right here. (The kid's also working on a new draft of "Ender's Game," too!)

Weird, everybody was parising the Garland script...this looks fishy to me.

28 Days Later is one of my favorite movies
and I love Peter Jackson so I have high hopes for what could be the first truly amazing video game movie. You know what, maybe after this we'll stop refering to them as "video game movies" and just movies. You don't hear people going that's a "Book movie" and "Comic book movie" is being used less and less frequently. This could be the best news to video game movies aside from the death of Uwe Boll and Paul W.S. Anderson
