Am I the only one that thinks that Jack Nicholson got robbed?

Oh yeah, and the fact that Sasha Baron Cohen or Brad Pitt wasn't nominated shows the Oscars ignorance, and shouldn't Dicaprio have been nominated for The Departed and not Blood Diamond? Also Matt Damon has been left out. And don't get me wrong, I loved Little Miss Sunshine, but is it really deserving over United 93?

If nothing else, this years best picture noms sure as hell beats the crap out of last year's. Remember Brokeback? Unlike Crash, all of this year's nominations deserve to win.

I agree with the people who said Children of Men and Alfonso Cuaron should have gotten more credit, AMAZING film. Hopefully it will win all its nominated for. As for "The Fountain", the score by Mansell as well as cinematography and an awesome performance by Hugh Jackman should have been nominated. Click for makeup are you kidding??

Well lets hope for departed for best pic. And RT: pirates is nominated for 4 awards, and yes it deserves those awards its nominated for.

I think "Blood Diamond" asked more of Leo's acting abilities than "The Departed" did...

"The Departed" is the better movie sure, but when you look at Leo's performance in it compared to every other role/character he has played in the past, it wasn't too much of a stretch for him to play. "Blood Diamond" is not his best performance either, but for this year, it was. He does a killer South African accent too.

Pretty good nominations. Leo was nominated for Blood Diamond because Warner Bros. had hoped he would get nominated for best actor (for Blood Diamond, which happened) and best supporting actor (for The Departed, which didn't happen). I know, I don't think his character in the Departed is a supporting character either but that was their campaign plan. Also I agree that Mansell was snubbed; the score for The Fountain was fantastic. For me though the best movie of year was United 93-- at least Paul Greengrass was nominated for directing and the film won a nomination for editing.

Though I haven't seen many of the films yet (I've been busy!), I have to say I think Little Miss Sunshine is over-rated and definitely not worthy of a best picture nomination. I found it clunky, the second half was extremely predictable, and I found it not to be "absolutely hilarious" as so many claim. It was an OK film buoyed by a good cast. Even when you read RT's critic reviews, there were many that gave positive though marginally so reviews. However, I was thinking Oscar for Arkin while watching the show. Why they knocked him off in the film remains a complete mystery to me.

Children of Men, for example, was a far better film IMO.

Jennifer Hudson should not win, she was so bad in Dreamgirls yet people still think she should win, how about they nominate another actress that was actually good? Maybe Rasario Dawson in Clerks 2 the best comedy of the year?

I am so glad Little Miss Sunshine got the noms. I didn't understand why it wasn't being talked about in Oscarland when just about everyone loved it. Maybe it had a kinda happier ending and people just wrote it off....

But not Oscarland this year.

Departed will win. Politics will be the reason. It may be the best picture and is deserving of it but I think that even if it wasn't.... it would win. The Tom Hanks rule. They won't give it to Clint again. Not the best pic anyhow. Martin has to get it this time.

Babel.....The Queen....haven't seen so I don't know what I think is the best. Maybe Children of Men and LMSunshine

Well...for once its a good year for us Brits!
Im general im happy with the nominatiosn thoguh i havent seen a lot of the films (babel only just out, waiting for fountain, letters, blood diamond ,dreamgirls etc)
I really liked Little miss sunshine but would not pick it for best pic....
for most categories id be happy with anyone winning but i hope Scorcese does though i reckon Greengrass and not eastwood could steal it from him!
and i am kinda pleased about beyonce but thats prob jealousy as shes rich, slim beautiful.....

Could they just give Scorcese the best director award. He deserves it maybe he didn't deserve for Gangs of New York but he did for the Aviator which wasn't his style at all and he did great with it. Also some of his older work should've won, I'm only 18 but I found some of his stuff in my video store its excellent and hard to imagine that he has never won a best director oscar. The Departed was excellent and deserves to win. I'm suprised Babel has been doing so well because it got sort of mixed reviews could it be this years Crash?

w@velength, I feel exactly the same. That year was the last year I watched the Oscars.

In any case, I tend not to go to the movies that much, because I hate spending so much time on such disappointing fare. However, I do agree with what several others have posted. Namely, I think Little Miss Sunshine was outstanding and deserving of the nod. I just saw Children of Men and was amazed. What an excellent movie.

Where I differ from a number of you is that Letters from Iwo Jima did nothing for me. I found the cinematography to be poor, the effects unconvincing, and the story lame. I wish I had that time back.

Before I rant I must say that Little Miss Sunshine was a wonderful movie. I laughed my ass off and cried too. I am mad that Greg Kinnear was ignored, his face when he realized what the beauty pageant was like is a classic. I am angry that someone implied that my comment about being glad that Beyonce didn't get a nod was racist. I am black! I just don't like her crappy attitude because no one was amazed by her performance. Her parents are part of her problem, they have made her believe that she is entitled to everything just because she is Beyonce. I read that her parents demanded a re-editing to make her look better and her father's comments about "racism" because she didn't win a Golden Globe were unbelievable. Well they have to keep that gravy train running don't they, but they aren't doing her any favors. She, like other singers (Jessica, Hilary, Mariah, to name a few) need to stick to singing and not listen to their horribly over-developed egoes which tell them they can be actresses as well. I hope they don't have her singing the Oscar songs again, that was ridiculous!! Oh yeah, and Prince and Sheryl Crow got robbed in the song category.

this has to be Scorcese's year. i've seen all the other movies in best pic and best director catergories ,except for Letters from Iwo Jima, and i will say ALL of them are great movies with great directing efforts. but come on The Departed grossed more money and was in MY opinion the most entertaining movie in a few years....aka HUGE SUCCESSFUL MOVIE

but hey thats what they said about Brokeback Mountain.

Eastwood really doesn't need another trophey. how much room is left on that shelf?

other than that....it seems silly to nominate films like Poseidon or Black Dahlia and leave out The Fountain.

expected a scanner darkly to get a visual effects nod, but glad it didn't. an improvement over last year, although i just don't see what the big deal is with Babel, hopefully won't turn into this year's Crash. would've been nice to see Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo Del Toro get director noms ahead of Alejandro Gonz�lez I��rritu and Paul Greengrass, but expecting too much with that. was Volver actually an entry from any country as foreign language film? some how i don't think so. No love at all for James Bond... feels wrong.

Well the ONE you haven't seen is the best of the bunch. I wouldn't worry, Marty will most likely win, but if we are going to judge truly based on the greatness of the actual craft of directing for these specific nominated films, not for career achievement, Eastwood deserves the award. However, I almost don't want him to win simply because the backlash that will come after will sour the whole thing. I say give director to Marty, but give best pic to "Letters." It really is of the bunch - by far. And don't disagree if you haven't seen it but just assume nothing is better than "The Departed" - a movie Marty could have directed in his sleep. He has deserved to win in the past and I'm all for him getting it - finally - but did he do anything all the new or special. Even his lesser films like "Casino" and "Gangs..." had more going on from a directing craft standpoint.
