on Feb 25 2007 07:44 PM In reply to this comment (#856599) I think it was more the fact that this is the first time he's really done a dramatic role well. Why give it to him for his first decent dramatic role? I think the voters realize this and want to see him prove himself a little more. I'm glad he didn't win. I'd like to see him try to do what Bill Murray's been doing. Maybe try to take some quality roles. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 25 2007 07:46 PM In reply to this comment (#856601) Yeah, Eddie Murphy was taking a serious turn and all (yay) but it really wasn't that great, to be honest. Do people really think his was the best supporting performance in that lot? (Reply to this) |
on Feb 25 2007 07:54 PM Is it just me or is DeGeneres remarkably unfunny? (Reply to this) |
on Feb 25 2007 08:05 PM It is true, Pan's Labyrinth was robbed. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 25 2007 08:07 PM annoucement mistake ok, so after they announced that the departed won best adapated screenplay, did anyone else notice the pre-recorded lady announcer said based on a JAPANESE FILM "infernal affairs"... like what kind of stupid mistake is that??!!! ughh HK, HK, or even China would be ok, it's just so ignorant of the Academy to assume that all asian countries are the same thing. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 25 2007 08:10 PM How many more days does the ceremony go on for? I'm losing the will to live. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 25 2007 09:06 PM poo what im saying is that dreamgirls was dumb for putting three of its original songs up for the same award- of course the votes were going to split and neither was going to have a majority. it was a poor decision. - they robbed themselves (Reply to this) |

![]() on Feb 25 2007 09:23 PM "diane is such a goddess" Yes she is. "The Departed" winning makes up for Etheridge winning...great writer, but she sounds like a man. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 25 2007 09:25 PM congrats to Scorsese, he sooooo deserved it (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 25 2007 09:28 PM In reply to this comment (#856613) so i guess that makes it three6mafia one; scorsese, one. still seems wrong. and. oh yes. pan's was robbed. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 25 2007 11:01 PM is the departed the first remake to win best pic? I remember something about goodbye mr chips, but I'm not sure (Reply to this) |
on Feb 25 2007 11:02 PM Pan was robbed??? Children of Men was robbed. COM clearly should of won best cinematography! (Reply to this) |
on Feb 25 2007 11:06 PM Hey, Cars was robbed! Happy Feet was stupid propaganda that kids could care less about! Those #@%$$ penguins can thank Al Gore for their Oscar! (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 25 2007 11:29 PM The Prestige was robbed, that should of been up for more nominations but it got screwed over. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 25 2007 11:34 PM Pan's Labyrinth, robbed to Lives of Others. What is this world coming to? (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 12:03 AM Children of men should have won cinematography (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 12:08 AM Agree with you all about Pan's loss. How can it win best cinematography, achievement in makeup, and art direction then lose best Foreign Film to 'Lives of Others'? Was 'Lives of Others' even nominated for any other award? (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 12:21 AM Dreamgirls' mistake was in not picking just one of their three nominated songs and launching a huge campaign behind it. Two other movies have had three Best Song nominations -- Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King -- and each of them managed to NOT split the vote and walk away with the prize. They each won for their "signature" ballad -- "Beauty and the Beast" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight". "Listen" is the best-known song of the three, but they really needed to get it out much more than they did to make people know that this was THE song to vote for. Oh well. Beyonce doesn't care either way. She was robbed of her share in the nomination so she's probably happy they got gypped. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 12:43 AM It wasn't a really exciting Oscars this year. Happy that Scorsese finally won. COM should have got something. Pan was definitely robbed. Really glad Happy Feet beat Cars. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 03:54 AM OSCARS meh, who cares Those shadow dancers, what the hell was that? This ceremony hasn't got a clue and has gotten progressively worse each year. Ellen had her moments as MC but I felt just like I do with her TV show....which is "I wouldn't mind changing the channel to see what else is on." Anyone want to bet Jennifer Hudson will have a dead acting career within a year or so? (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 07:13 AM j hud will probably play the same role over and over, but nothing really wrong with that if she plays them well and distinctfully (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 07:46 AM In reply to this comment (#856628) The only noms The Prestige should have gotten were a Supporting Actor for Bowie and maybe maybe an actor for Jackman. I'd say maybe Bale, but come on it was painfully obvious he was **Spoiler alert** Fallon in make-up. The movie as it was took so long to reach it's conclusions that I and most of the free world had already figured them out a half hour earlier. I think the story of Tesla's rivalry with Edison would have made a far more interesting film. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 08:41 AM I thought it was a good year as most of the films I liked won something, The Departed won four(Scorsese and picture hell yeah), Pan's three, Little Miss Sunshine two(very happy that Arkin won), and Pirates one. I wish Hudson hadn't won, as I wasn't impressed with her at all in Dreamgirls but oh well. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 08:57 AM Ellen vacuuming = dumbest bit of the night. I almost didn't have enough time to switch over to ESPN before I shot myself from the stupidity. I wish Graham had invited Marty on stage during his speech, I think it would have been classy. Kind of an "up yours" to the Academy and their years of neglect. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 09:19 AM The Lives of Others was much better than Pan's Labyrinth, I thought. I bet all the Pan's fanboys haven't even seen it (The Lives of Others). (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 11:14 AM For what it's worth, I loved both Pan's Labyrinth and The Lives of Others, so I would have been happy with either one winning. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 11:38 AM I'm glad that CARS didn't win, but I think MONSTER HOUSE was the best of the three animation nominations. Everyone's going to cry about PAN'S LABYRINTH not winning best foreign language film, even though they've never seen the other nominees (it's the only one I've seen so I really can't complain). I think the foreign film category is idiotic to begin with. No matter where a film is made, if it's good enough it should have a chance in the best picture category. I'm glad that Morricone got a good amount of time to speak. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 12:05 PM i saw scotland it was amazing, forrest deserves that oscar he was brillant; however, the only person robbed and was neglected was PETER OTOOLE 8 times and no win. he is one of the top ten of actors to ever grace this planet, he has given some of the top performances of all time; forrest was great but i saw venus and otoole was just as good and couple that with that fact he has never won and has been nominated 8 times he deserved it, and if he doesnt win it will be the single greatest travesty of the entire history of the academy awards (and there are alot, richard burton 7 noms no win that bad). (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 12:07 PM I'M HAPPY "BABEL" DID NOT WIN!!! YEAH!! My God, I was so worried that BLOATED, OVER-RATED, boring and disjointed film was said by so many to win "Best Film". I'm glad that did NOT happen, and "The Departed" won over the over-rated "Babel", which the critics seemed to kiss-ass of, almost every day... Scorcese's film is FAR superior and far better in almost every single way. "Babel" felt to me, like something someone stuck together with duct-tape, and it felt like that when watching it (I want my money back!)--- and that scence in the end where the chinese daughter stand naked before her father made me feel only one single emotion. It was not pity or anything sentimental. I felt just DISGUST at that unneccesary scene. But then again, I blame myself for not walking out of that bore-fest, halfway into the movie--- when it was clear that the disjointed movie did nothing to me--- and that Brad Pitt's name and (short) over-rated acting (he did much better in "12 Monkeys"...) were put there by the directors simply to put a BIG name on the posters, and bring in viewers that way... Anyway, I'm the HAPPIEST that "The Departed" won instead of that boring "Babel". (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 12:13 PM I actually did not watch the Oscars (i played Okami and Black instead...and a good thing seeing as DeGeneres apparently did a crappy job). Reading over the wins...I find it flat-out appalling that Children of Men did not win best cinematography. I loved both Pan's and COM, but clearly COM had the immensely better camera movements (come on! the bike scene??! that was fucking amazing!) And I may get flak for this one, but I also find it sad that the Departed is the film Scorcese won best director on. Not that he didn't deserve it, but that after all these years, after all the great films he's made, it's this one that he gets it for. He needed it a long time ago. I guess it seems somewhat of a damned-if-he-does and damned-if-he-doesn't-win situation, but honestly, he's done better, even though I do believe the Departed was one of the best films of last year. And Melissa Ethridge won?! Jesus. H. Christ. Well now she can die happy with a nice big Oscar on her grave. She's a bland, monotonous musician, who plays the litest of rock and only continues to get recognition for her bout with cancer (whooptey-shit). I haven't seen the film, but I had heard the Dreamgirl's song and Jennifer Hudson singing "Love You I Do" was great. I hate American Idol, but you can't deny someone their talents. Personally, although I didn't see him on the show, Seinfeld would be a fantastic host for the Oscars. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 12:47 PM In reply to this comment (#856637) Still it was a great movie, it was ten times better than Babel, or Pan, or even the Queen, now i am so happy The Departed won but the Prestige should of been nominated for best picture. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 01:03 PM In reply to this comment (#856646) Yea and also Children of Men in my opinion, maybe it came along too late... Little Miss Sunshine could have lost a spot to CoM, I think. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 01:37 PM In reply to this comment (#856647) Babel should have lost its spot to CoM. I saw all 3 of the Three Amigos' films this year and Pan's and CoM ran circles around Babel. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 01:55 PM Pan's Was Robbed????? Did any of you even see The Lives of Others? I doubt it. I've seen both. Pan's was NOT robbed--the Lives of Others is a masterpiece. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 01:55 PM In reply to this comment (#856646) I honestly hope Nolan does do the Tesla-Edison story. On the DVD he mentions that he didn't think he could do justice to the story. It's a fascinating bit of American history that people just seem to have forgotten. I think Tesla's genius deserves more than the 15 minutes he got in The Prestige. He was one of America's truly great visionaries, at least on par with Edison, yet only a fraction of the people who know Edison as a household name know Nichola Tesla. The man invented AC current, The Radio and envisioned the use of Radar 40 years before the British used it in WWII. He was so far ahead of his time that many of his idea's were discounted as ridiculous until people figured out 30 or 40 years later that he was right. Sorry I've gone on a bit. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 02:03 PM I have a feeling that 20 years from now nobody will remember The Lives Of Others while many people will be buying special edition boxsets of Pan's Labyrinth (a classic film). It's a pity it didn't win the oscar... (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 02:15 PM Jeez, I feel asleep in Happyfeet! (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 03:12 PM The Departed ;-) (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 04:55 PM In reply to this comment (#856628) mos def. the prestige was overlooked ... nolan is a fantastic director; maybe, like scorsese, it will take the oscars far too long to catch up with him. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 26 2007 05:07 PM In reply to this comment (#856651) In 3 years no one will know about Pan's Labyrinth that is what happens to flavor of the month type moives. It was not a good movie, only Del Toro fluffers like it. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 07:10 PM I have to grit my teeth while I do this :-) but I will agree that Pan's was not as great as I was hoping based on all the praise. It was an okay film, imaginative in spots, but certainly not one of Del Toro's best. That honor (IMHO) belongs to The Devil's Backbone. I haven't seen Lives of Others yet, since Charlotte, for all its pretentions of being a world-class city, takes forever to get foreign films, but I will definitely check it out when it finally comes.. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 07:43 PM babel or little miss sunshine should have won for best picture. not the departed. (Reply to this) |
on Feb 26 2007 09:36 PM Babel wasn't that great. 21 Grams is a better work of his anyways. Also, unless it's within film circles, no one will remember The Lives of Others or Pan's Labyrinth. This is America, who watches foreign films? (Reply to this) |
on Feb 28 2007 07:48 AM In reply to this comment (#856644) I'm speechless Wait...let me get this straight. u watched that whole moving thinking that girl was chinese?? I hope you are kidding...or i will be forced to disregard your whole comment as useless and not worth considering. For wat its worth, I thought Babel was okay...interestingly cut, but I really didn't like the Departed...considering i'm the few on this site that has actually watched the original... (Reply to this) |
on Mar 03 2007 12:37 PM I haven't watched the original, but I did watch The Departed last night and I'm sorry to say that I didn't much care for it at all. I was very disappointed. How Scorsese could win for this and not Goodfellas is beyond me. (Reply to this) |
