Not content to float a rumor about one remake's possible director, IESB is digging into its bag of anonymous sources for some dish about who might be taking the reins for Warner Bros.' planned remake of the 1981 cult classic/Harry Hamlin career peak, Clash of the Titans. You want a name director? They don't get much bigger than this.

So, who's the lucky candidate for Titandom? According to IESB's source, Warner Bros. has been wooing -- wait for it -- Sam Raimi.

It sounds slightly ridiculous at first blush, and for all we know, there's no truth to it whatsoever. On the other hand, if Warners really feels like it has to attempt a Titans remake, there's a rather short list of directors who might be able to make it work -- whatever that means -- and it would be tough to argue against Raimi being on it. The studio is apparently shooting for a darker (read: not as cheesy) take on the original, and Raimi's visual flair could help bring it to life. (Also, as the article notes, "he's worked with skeleton armies before, so who better for the job?")

Raimi's production schedule is pretty cluttered for the next couple of years -- announced projects include The Grudge 3 -- but as a director, the only films he might have on the horizon are an Evil Dead movie, Spider-Man 4, and 2009's The Hobbit, so in theory, he's got the time. For anyone who's ever wanted to know what Bruce Campbell looks like in a loincloth, this just might be your best chance to find out.

absolutely agree with nathan but I dont know if when you said terrible if you meant by movie or the FX. Its true the FX were terrible but I enjoyed the movie alot when I was a little toddler. The FX might have looked outdated but for that time period it was tolerable. Of all the movies that needed a remake, Clash of the Titans is dying to be remade. I would have preferred if Gullermo Del Toro would have directed it but Sam Raimi works as well too

To say that the effects in Clash of the Titans are terrible, or tolerable for their time, is very ignorant. Ray Harryhausen is probably the most accomplished stop-motion/optical effects artist of his time. The Medusa sequence in this movie is a classic piece of film.

Please don't make a remake of this film! It was awesome in all of its cheese! Ray Harryhausen is dead, and thus, people should respect that he cannot work on this film, which would have been the only way to do a remake if it was ever done.

Remakes really are compliments to the originals, even if they aren't as good as the first. I don't mind if they remake old movies that have crummy specials effects and upgrade their looks. Let's just hope they keep the quality up.

And I figure sometime, maybe not for another generation or so, Citizen Kane will be remade. Classics can't be ignored forever.

Redrum is right on. The effects for this film were state of the art and absolutely groundbreaking for its time.

That being said, I'm all for a remake, especially if it's from Raimi. Let's just hope he takes it.

Ray Harryhausen is NOT dead. He is alive at 87 years old. He quit making movies a long time ago, though.

His effects for Jason & the Argonauts, Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and a host of other classic adventure movies are among the best of their kind.

People are so used to CGI that they think something is wrong with stop-motion effects, but they just are spoiled by slick CGI images.

Clash of the Titans contains some of Harryhausen's best work including Medusa and the Kraken. Some critics were annoyed by the little owl robot, because it was too similar to a certain Star Wars character. All in all, though, the film has a fairly strong fanbase. It's just fun. Not slick explosions and quick one-liners, but a real story and some imagination. For some reason the 1980s are looking pretty good for action-adventure movies these days.

Clash of the Titans is a excellent classic movie and the effects were top notch for their time. I don't know if I can get excited for a remake however. How about making a film in the same genre, but a different story?

Granted expecting Hollywood to come out with a story that's anywhere nearly as creative as Clash of the Titans is almost laughable, hence the remake I guess.

Don't forget that Ray Harryhausen did the special effects for Mysterious Island also. Another great classic.

Updated special effects do not make for a better film. I won't purchase the new Star Trek DVD's for that reason.

please o please get rid of the stupid robotic owl, that was the dumbest part of the original,other than that i'm lokking forward to the remake, i actually think the cgi effects could be a POSITIVE FOR THIS TYPE OF MOVIE.if you have seen the 1981 film you'll know what i'm talking about. the stop motion scorpions and medusa characters are laughable and the scene with the kracken is downright awful.

If Raimi is smart he'll take the remake of Clash of the Titans and run because despite the tough talk from New Line, he hasn't a chance in hell of getting The Hobbit and he knows it. New Line is simply using him as a bargaining chip with Jackson.
