On the last day of school in May 1976, students at a suburban Texas high school wait, lackadaisically, for classes to end. The restless almost-seniors--an eclectic group of stone-heads, fraternal jocks, and snobby sorority girls--can't wait to haze the incoming freshman, an annual event as harrowing for freshman boys as it is humiliating for girls. Amidst this teenage wasteland of drugs, partying, and rock and roll is football star Pink (Jason London), who saves scrawny pre-frosh Mitch (Wiley Wiggins) from being paddled to oblivion by upper-classmates. But Pink has his own battles: he's struggling over the head coach's demand that football players sign a pledge to abstain from sex and all psychoactive substances. When a wild end-of-the-year party is cancelled, the students end up congregating at a beer-blast in the back woods, organized by aging hang-about Wooderson (Matthew McConaughey). In the same way that George Lucas assembled a cast of fresh young faces for AMERICAN GRAFFITI, Linklater here creates an unforgettable cast of characters that are immediately familiar to anyone who has ever been through high school. Reviews for Dazed and Confused
An affectionate but unsentimental recreation of suburban teen culture in the rock -- and pot -- drenched 70s.
A better-than-average teen movie but not much more, at least if you aren't a member of Linklater's generation.
Blissful, prelapsian adolescent endangerment, familiar to a bygone era before the country became so uptight about everything and anything that could maybe, possibly, under the right circumstances, kill you.
Linklater's first masterpiece--possibly his best film--presents an accurate collective portrait of youth circa 1976, which unfolds in a casual, spontaneous, and charming manner as interlaced tales of pranks and adventures.
Dazed and Confused is a perfect movie. It flawlessly captures the spirit of the '70s while arguing for a clear universality in the high school experience.
O tom nostálgico, embalado por uma trilha impecável, confere um charme irresistível ao filme.
Seriously funny, and shorn of any hint of nostalgia or wish-fulfilment, this is pretty much where it's at.
Hysterically Funny and ultimately enriching, "Dazed and Confused" takes some pretty genuine themes - rebelling, the thought of growing up too fast, and life after school - and spices it with a nice blend of wired humour.
Not only portrays flawlessly a 24-hour period on the last day of school in 1976, but it captures the crushing boredom of a small town.
Linklater ... examines a period when indulging in vices was viewed as a coming-of-age rite of passage rather than a life-threatening act of immorality.
Maybe the best movie ever made about American teenagers, casual and funny in a totally unique way.
Shows the aimlessness and amorality of youth who don't have a clue to the rituals that could give their lives meaning.
