New Halo Script, Concept Art Making the Rounds
by | August 05, 2008
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

Okay, so Fox's much-discussed Halo movie is dead...but now there's apparently another Halo script, written by Stuart Beattie and based on the 2001 novel Halo: The Fall of Reach, that's making the rounds -- and it's even got concept art. Click to take a look! Back to Article

I hope they keep Master Cheif under his mask for the whole movie. That would be cool( but they'll want to show the star's face)

Can I say one negative thing about this idea without getting flamed?

Here goes.

Does ANYONE understand the plot of the Halo games? How is this going to work at all as a movie?

the heart of the plot is simple enough: fanatically religious alien races band together to kill mankind and one indestructible super-soldier, the last of his breed, says no and instead tries to kill all of the aliens. oh yeah, and the aliens have these giant space stations that support life and are actually weapons (like the death star, except with trees and weather, somehow...) and the aliens also use those as containment vessels for a plague of parasites that turn their hosts into mutarded zombies, so the super-solider has to kill all of them and eventually says f#ck it and just blows up the entire space station as he escapes on a spaceship.

simple three act format:
I. master chief goes to halo and kills aliens
II. master chief snoops around halo and kills zombies
III. master chief blows up halo, killing both the aliens and zombies

that's all you need. very little origin stuff, just do 'halo: combat evolved.' the prequel novel thing is dumb because there are too many super-soldiers for master chief to stand out. Example: Jango Fett = awesome. 5 million clones of jango fett as an army = who gives a sh#t

and they don't need a star to play master chief AT ALL. the whole mystique is that you don't see his face, even at the end of game 1. just get the guy who did the voice for the game and use various no-names to run around in the suit killing crap. master chief character himself would be the star.

so yes, they should do a halo movie (especially if they're doing 'prince of persia' and 'gears of war'), and it should be full of action initially, then get scary with the zombies, then be exciting again until everything goes boom.

c'mon hollywood, is this really as hard as you've made it out to be? it's the biggest video game franchise of all time (numbers-wise at least), so don't tell me it lacks brand recognition. put $150 mill into it and watch as you make $500 worldwide. duh.

the plot is really simple actually. basically humans vs aliens, w/ some super-soldiers and 'ring-world' super weapons thrown in there.

that concept art looks like crap; looks like it was taken from the game booklet or something; really unremarkable.

Couldn't really care less - BUT read the comments after that story - a bunch of fanboys arguing about HALO fiction. I had hope for humanity's future that no one read HALO fiction...but damn....cue depression.

It's not just that people are arguing about the plot. I'm naturally skeptical about any video game adaptation as games are generally propped up on a very thin plot, since all the focus goes on user control over the main character.

Once the control is taken away, it ceases to be interesting.

This needs to have a budget of at the lowest 125 million and needs to be rated R to be good and faithfull.

Last I heard, Master Chief won't be the star of the movie. It was going to be told from the regular human soldier perspective, and Master Chief in the background.

Jeez. If that's true, they might as well just call it Transformers.

Shooter games don't make good movies. It basically ceases to be anything original, just another action movie.

I lost interest in the Halo franchise when the second game came out and was horrible. Flame me if you want, but it brings absolutely nothing new to the table. A Halo movie, unless vastly different from the game, will be just another DOOM.

I'm with you, actually. I'm not much of a gamer, anyway (too expensive a hobby once you grow up and have bills). I've always found Halo to be less interesting than people make it out to be.

I loved the games for their action and quality entertainment- not the story telling "quality". I read "Fall of Reach" and absolutely loved it. It stood up on its own and would function as a good prologue or flashback segments throughout the film. After watching all of Neil Blomkamp's videos on Youtube, I can see why Peter Jackson chose him- he has the vision to make it right. A lot of work would have to be done to make the story stand up, but with Jackson producing, WETA doing visual effects and artistic and set direction, this movie would be fairly good. Now it just seems as if this new writer is trying to pass it off and sell it like a stupid, watered down action flick, just like the hundreds of other bad action / scifi films Hollywood executives love to put out year after year (insert practically 98% of all American made action films here). Halo HAS to be Restricted to work, and cannot be hacked to remove any "objectionable" material. I'd rather have it made right, rather than not at all.

I will only say this once, let me be the one to direct this Halo movie. But, if Neil Blomkamp want to do it, then Im all for it. Just give us Peter Jackson to back it and the rest of fans will be happy.

Fall of the Reach was almost a complete rip-off of Kurt Russel's Soldier.

if you ask me they should just do a straight shoot of the original game easily 3 hours those who have play will appreciate it those who have not will trip..I.E remember how you felt when they introduced the flood. You were comfortable after hour 12 with the covenant then they dropped the bomb and the Library needs no introduction if you haven't beat it on legendary play it I have solo and with a friend if I were to shoot it I would move it at legendary pace. The whole feel should be stamina exhaust the audience that is why Master Chief is Master Chief you can feel it in the game. It's 4 am I have to split working on some things up late (i guess I have a little big of the chief in me) I will be back at it at 9..am God speed dont run out of ammo keep moving.
