Holy Box-Office, Batman! Dark Knight Makes $66M On Record-Breaking Opening Day
Summary
With anticipation so high theaters across the country were adding midnight and early a.m. shows to meet demand, Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel The Dark Knight took in an estimated $66.4 million on opening day. If projections are accurate, it could also become the highest-grossing opening weekend of all time. Back to Article

on Jul 19 2008 06:07 PM i say, whoever was the dumb person to spill about what happens two-face will bring that person bad karma. as for the dark knight, finally. batman gets the best opening ever. im proud that im am apart of that box office history. as for questions for the next moive, i really think it is gonna be hard to replace heath's joker. even though i love to see the joker in the last film that nolen is gonna to make. i been watching some stuff about the dark knight from the black carpet on mon. in new york. some of the actors in the movie said they would like to see the Riddler in the next film. i hope nolen takes a good break from filming. all of us fans will be waiting for his final take on batman. on Jul 19 2008 06:11 PM after Dark Knight, why would anyone else even try to make a comic book movie? (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 06:12 PM Wall-E was by no means perfect. It was a decent animated film but boring for kids and had way too many political undertones for my tastes. Batman's voice is probably the low-point of the film but with performances by Christian Bale in his Bruce Wayne role, plus Heath Ledger (who was incredible), and even Aaron Eckart, it's hard to argue anything except how great it was. Need I point out that Batman doesn't talk that much? He does a lot of action and then does a lot of disappearing. I also thought the voice improved toward the end as it became less raspy, which to me means he (Bruce Wayne) is still trying to come up with a Bat voice. Iron Man was a really good movie but the anti-climactic fight scene at the end left something to be desired. This movie deserves all the props and accolades that it gets because it was fantastically written, skillfully directed, superbly acted, and artfully executed. This is the Batman film above all Batman films. This is the film of the year. There isn't a way to convince me otherwise ESPECIALLY since I was actually a bit disappointed in Wall-E. I'm also confident that you won't be able to convince most of the other people here for the straight fact that watching Dark Knight multiple times with the same feeling each time tells us that we are indeed watching a great film and are not just instinctively saying it's good because everyone else is. I'll be seeing it for the third time on Monday and I look forward to it as much as I did the first (except maybe without the shaking of anxiety). (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 06:22 PM Sorry but if you are going to call the final scene of Iron Man anti-climatic yet say nothing about the anti-climatic miracle chase that batman had while he was shot and yet was able to get away from dogs and cops, knows nothing about movies. Hell Batman was great but not the best and there is nothing that you fanboys can say to prove otherwise, i mean really the last act was poorly written and put together and that is a fact. on Jul 19 2008 06:28 PM Wallcloud because movies like Iron Man 2 and Avengers are going to make people forget about TDK, hell it is not even in the top two for comic book movies. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 06:46 PM wow!!! it topped the 3-DAY opening of BATMAN BEGINS with just 1 DAY!!! (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 07:00 PM why are you saying that Batman's voice was retarded... when in fact it actually makes sense cause this nolan's batman is realistic... If he doesnt do that voice then gotham will know that he's bruce wayne... does nolan have to explain everything on screen people??? TheCaptain of TeamLoyalty.. you're f***ing retarted.. you just can't stand that a DC comics made a masterpiece and MARVEL didnt... (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 07:18 PM I cant wait to see Wall-E and TDK (until 8/14) , but really will people prefer to watch Wall-E instead of TDK, i like animation but ill take a movie like No Country for Old Men before The Incredibles. (Reply to this) |
|
on Jul 19 2008 07:29 PM No it was retarded because of how it sounded, i understand the reasoning behind it and it makes perfect sense but he tried too hard to sound like John Wayne and came off as retarded. Marvel did make a masterpiece, it is called Iron Man, a better movie, and Spiderman 2, and Xmen 2, ect. Try again you ****ing dumbass, go suck DCs **** and cry about how even with this movie they failed to beat marvel again. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 07:59 PM In reply to this comment (#1897724) Marvel sucks but you suck harder. Avengers will never make that much money. It will be hokey like most Marvel crap. DC will always be number 1. And Tony Stark was a rip-off of Bruce Wayne. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 08:07 PM In reply to this comment (#1897724) As usual my friend you miss the forest because you're busy with the branch up your arse. Batmans voice sounds nothing like John Waynes drawl. It sounds raspy and intimidating and most importantly nothing like Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne voice. Dissing a movie because of one minor non-existant flaw is redonkulous, but since I know starting these pointless debates which I'm 99% sure you don't even believe the point you're arguing seem to give your life meaning I'll digress from the ridicule. Ironman was a great movie. haven't seen Wall-E yet, but great as Ironman was I don't think it can compare with TDK on any level except enjoyability since it was a much more feel good movie where TDK explored appropriately darker fare. Downey was good(possibly better than Bale), but Ledger was a revelation and so far ahead of The Dude(I think he catapulted himself into the Darth Vader/Hans Gruber level of the villainscape with this) as a villain it's not even comparable and he and Nolan's virtually flawless storytelling put this ahead of Ironman as a cinematic experience for me and most people who go in without a clear bias I think. Unless of course you went into the theater just looking for some witty repartee in which case on that level I could see how someone could argue for Ironman since it was a much sunnier movie. Seriously dude, did you not just sit there and think WOW!!! about a half dozen times while you were watching it? If you can let the minimal effects of a characters voice ruin that for you I feel sorry for you. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 19 2008 08:09 PM TheCaptainofTeamLoyalty, I somewhat agree with you're saying. I think that the Dark Knight was really, really good, probably one of the best comic book films of all time. But the last act kinda drug out for me...it seemed pretty sloppily made. Where many of the characters made well thought out and executed decisions, things just kinda happened here & there in the last act. The writing of this film was amazing though. I love how the Joker was written as a criminal mastermind with no discoverable motive...it was virtually impossible to find any flaws in his plans...and I think it set up showing Batman as the master detective that he is, perfectly. The acting was top notch also, from all of the cast, minus that godawful Batman voice. The action sequences were far less choppier than Batman Begins as well. I do have to disagree with you though, this film put Iron Man to shame. This is the intelligent man's comic book film, where Iron Man is for those that like shiney colors, and to hear things go boom. on Jul 19 2008 08:52 PM It is good to know that fags like wallstreet think that 1% BETTER REVIEWS MEANS THAT IT IS VASTLY SUPERIOR THAN IRON MAN, using your retarded logic, hell to say it is retarded is an insult to all retards, using your fagish logic WallE is You suck balls, bat balls, which is bestiality and is sad. I nominate you for biggest *** ever, and since i am better than you in every way i have the power to do it and thus you are officially the biggest *** ever. Your right to talk has been revoked. on Jul 19 2008 08:54 PM cgcbooks, Dc is number 1? With what? One great movie, one good movie, and 20 **** movies? I guess The Dark Knight makes up for the crap that was Superfag Returns, Batman 1,2,3,4 , Catwoman, etc. Dumbass, dont be pissed that Marvel is so far ahead of DC that Warner had to call a meeting with DC just so they can agree to copy marvel, AGAIN. on Jul 19 2008 09:00 PM Now to debating people who are not DC employees. Big Brother, nothing about his voice sounded intimidating, it was comical, i would laugh my *** off at him. He sounded like a John Wayne ripoff, it would of been awesome if he would of tried harder. Sorry but that is a BIG flaw, it takes away for the reality of the movie and of the acting. I never had a WOW moment with The Dark Knight, like i said before the hype for this movie killed it, it was way too overhyped and thus i could not enjoy it as much as i did with Iron Man, their stories are about even to me, the acting is about even(with downey and ledger being the standouts), the action was a little better in Iron Man, the flow was better in Iron Man. And thus Iron Man is better, not by much. So stop being blind. Zed, the thing is that there was nothing really intelligent about the movie, ti was great just not that great, Iron Man was far more intelligent and had a more realistic conclusion, not to mention that they are set for the future while Nolan screwed batman and now they have a giant pink elephant in the room.
