"28 Weeks Later:" Sequel Signs a Leading Man

You might not know the name, but odds are you'd recognize the face... Fox has signed actor Jeremy Renner to star as a heroic soldier in their "28 Days Later" sequel -- but if you remember what happened in the first movie, you know that the "heroic soldier" types don't always last that long.

From Variety: "Story picks up six months after the end of the first pic, in which a virus spreads, leaving few survivors. Special Forces is working to restore order and helping repopulate London when a carrier of the virus unknowingly ignites a reinfection. Renner will play Sgt. Doyle, one of the heroes of the sequel.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is directing from a script by Rowan Joffe. Andrew MacDonald, (Alex) Garland and Danny Boyle produce. Boyle directed the first installment."

Mr. Renner's previous movies include "North Country," "S.W.A.T.," "Lords of Dogtown," and the upcoming "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford."

That's great to see him getting such a good part. I think he's talented and, based on the show on A&E that followed struggling actors (wish I could remember the name of it) he seems like a really nice guy.

what the crap? this movie doesn't need a sequel. the first was perfect - just leave it at that! I hope it doesn't suck.

I do like Jeremy Renner, but I still can't help but have major doubts about this. The first one was awsome and I don't see how they can match it without Boyle at the helm.

So is the new title going to be "180 Days Later", I mean really why do they have to make a sequel to this. Just make some other Zombie movie with a different title, I mean c'mon.

i believe the name is going to be "28 Weeks Later," as the title of this article implies. i don't think the first needed a sequel either, but i guess we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

It's got a good director in Fresnadillo, or I guess I just enjoyed Intacto. Renner has potential, and I'm glad that boyle and garland are both still involved... I really hope this doesn't suck.

kinda disappointed
Movies like this, where the ending could not be any clearer, don't need a sequel.

The ending left it open for a sequel. Main characters were saved, but there were still a lot of zombies that hadn't died. If they keep the style of the first film, this could be pretty good.

Over a year later I am posting that I loved this movie. I'm surprised so many people were assuming it'd suck. I like it a heck of a lot more than the first. The ending of the first annoyed me when it became about "I promised my men women..." and suddenly became based on the despicable crime of rape and zombies were forgotten for like 20 minutes. Jeremy Renner was awesome in the second, and despite what some people get out of it, I thought the soldiers were portrayed generally as good people. GENERALLY that's what our soldiers are and I'm so sick of conspiracies saying otherwise. You'll find bad apples anywhere there are large amounts of people. but you'll also find heroes and people who care. In this case, that type was portrayed by Jeremy Renner.
