Review Revue: Hellboy II vs. Meet Dave vs. Journey 3D?
Watch and see what the critics are saying!

Discuss Article | Blog Article | Email To A Friend

There are three movies opening in wide release this week, but who are we kidding? Hellboy II: The Golden Army is riding the biggest wave of buzz. Watch this week's Review Revue as we discuss how Guillermo del Toro's fantastical superhero sequel is faring with the critics, and if there's any hope for the competing flicks of Brendan Fraser (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and Eddie Murphy (Meet Dave).

Guillermo del Toro returns to his beloved Hellboy franchise with a second adventure of epic proportions, forgoing the real-world evils of the first Hellboy for decidedly more fantastic fare. But challenging the horned comic-book hero for this weekend's ticket sales are new films from fellow A-listers who've built up considerable box office cache. Journey to the Center of the Earth stars the hammy Brendan Fraser in a 3-dimensional family adventure filled with dinosaurs and various projectiles; Meet Dave reunites the hammy Eddie Murphy with his Norbit director in a star vehicle about tiny aliens on Earth who live in a spaceship shaped like Eddie Murphy.

Without further ado, watch the Review Revue!

For further Hellboy II reading, check out our interview and Five Favorite Films with Doug Jones and our hour-long video chat with Guillermo del Toro!

And you won't want to miss the Review Revue next week, as we discuss the critical response to Mamma Mia, Space Chimps, and Batman's highly anticipated return to the screen, The Dark Knight!

I miss the "Coming To America" Eddie Murphy. I could care less about "Meet Dave". speaking of things that I miss, Where's the DAVE (Chung) that we actually care about?

I can't help but wonder where "Hellboy 2" will place in the box office, guess I'll have to check back for the "Box Office Guru" preview.

"You woke up the baby!!!" lol. Sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger dialogue.

Hellboy II was NOT awesome. It was decent at best. Excellent visuals(obviously where del Toro's heart really lies), but a so-so story that could've been told in ten minutes instead of two hours.

Bulletin: This just in: All prints of The Dark Knight have just been stolen. Gotham City Police are investigating and hope to apprehend the person or persons responsible. July 18th is now questionable. Stay tuned for further developments.

WOW! I can't wait. Only one more week!

For Space CHIMPS!

But, will anybody see anything but Space Chimps? Will there really be a reason for other films to exist, when all films will become Space Chimptastic?

From what I recalled, Space Chimps was the only thing opening next week, right? Or at least, everything else was just wannabes, so the theaters decided to make history and show Space Chimps on every available screen.

Hellboy 2 was a miss-fire that tells a tale of goblins, fairies and kings and strays very far from the universe that fits with Hellboy. An obvious yet desperate wave to LOTR fans anticipating Guillermo Del Toro's take on The Hobbitt. Fairies and goblins don't mix with Hellboy, zombies and PARANORMAL stuff does, god, i just realized right now how bad they messed up as i typed that. Wait for it on DVD, Guillermo has'nt done this yet....but he messed up on Hellboy 2 The Golden Army.

I wanna make history in the books of wikipedia by being the one who preferred to see Space Chimps in its opening night rather than The Dark Knight.

Hellboy will win this week. But due to bad buzz, and someone called Batman, will be forgoten in 5 days.

I imagine LOTR producers are going to sit and have a serious talk with Mr. Del Toro.

zeta, only people that choose to see the dark knight will find themselves in wikipedia. Space Chimps will dominate next week, and will be remembered as the greatest achievement of mankind....ever

i just saw hb 2. i loved it. i didn't have a problem with the trolls and the elves--i don't consider that stuff should matter as much as storytelling, characters, etc. GDT gives us so much in this movie--the visuals, which are amazing, the creatures, also amazing, and a real emotional center. i'm surprised by the negative criticism. i fully expect TDK to make us forget everything else, but i thought hb 2 was a lot of fun, and at times, even genuinely moving.

Please no one listen to these tools, do not deny yourself the pleasures of Hellboy II. Speaking as someone who truly does love the art of cinema, it was amazing.

Oh and Space Chimps will be epic.
